COB (Chip-on-Board) LED light strips are directly mounted on a flexible PCB board. It is a light strip technology that integrates multiple LED chips. It does not rely on individual SMD (surface mount) LEDs like traditional LED strip lights. Therefore, the chips of COB LED strips can be as high as 840leds/m, or even more. Its design allows the LED light sources to be closely arranged, providing more uniform light and higher brightness.

Since COB LED strip chips are directly mounted on the PCB board, the LED density is high, and COB light strips are generally able to provide stronger light output than SMD light strips. Then it will provide more uniform lighting, eliminating the light spots that may appear on traditional SMD light strips. This is also the main reason why COB light strips are popular.

The main difference between COB LED strips and traditional SMD LED strips is the difference in light source parts. SMD light strips use multiple independent LED units, usually soldered on the PCB board; while the LED chips of COB LED strips are directly mounted on the PCB board to form a tighter LED arrangement. The advantage of COB LED lamp beads is that they provide more uniform light, without the common light spots or hot spots of SMD LED strips, and the light is softer.

The color rendering index (CRI) of COB LED strips is basically above CRI90. We usually recommend high-quality COB light strips to customers because it can provide more realistic color rendering and is suitable for occasions with high color requirements, such as display, retail, office and artistic lighting.

COB LED strips can generally be cut, and each COB LED LED strip has a cutting place on the PCB board. The cutting position is usually clearly marked. In addition, please note that the cutting positions of 12V and 24V COB LED strips are different. Usually, the cutting points of each section of the light strip are designed according to a specific spacing (such as every 50mm or 100mm). After cutting, you need to use a connector or welding method for wiring.

After you cut the COB LED strip correctly, if you want to connect it and use it again. There are two ways to help you, the most common one is to use a connector. Use a special plug or connector to connect the cut part. The connector is usually inserted into the two ends of the light strip through a slot, without welding. However some products do not have connectors, so you have to choose the welding method. You can directly weld the cut part of the wire to the contact of the LED strip to ensure a firm connection.

The average life of COB LED light strips is usually more than 50,000 hours. It mainly depends on the quality of the product, the use environment and whether a radiator is used. Better heat dissipation and a proper working environment can greatly extend the service life of COB LED strips.

COB LED strips can be used outdoors, but you need to choose light strips with IP65 and above protection levels. Generally, if used outdoors, our IP65 and above light strips are waterproof and dustproof, suitable for open air environments or humid areas.

If you choose a COB light strip, you should mainly consider the following factors: brightness, power and color temperature. In addition, choose the waterproof level according to your indoor and outdoor conditions.

The lifetime of COB LED strips is usually 3-5 years, but the specific shelf life depends on the brand, usage environment and maintenance. All our non-waterproof COB LED strips are guaranteed for 5 years, and waterproof COB LED strips are guaranteed for 3 years. In addition, it is important to note that COB LED strip lights can achieve a longer service life when used in an appropriate environment and with good heat dissipation measures.
