With the popularity of intelligent lighting door control systems, infrared door control sensor switches have gradually become a key component in wardrobes, cabinet doors and display cabinets. In the specific use of our cabinets, we will encounter single-door and double-door cabinets. So we must choose between the “IR single-door infrared sensor” and the “double-door infrared sensor”. So, what is the difference between them? How to choose the right sensor according to your actual needs?
What is an IR Door Sensor Switch?
IR sensor switch are widely used in automatic door systems, cabinet control, restroom lighting, display cabinet lighting, smart home and other scenarios. Its biggest advantage is non-contact, high sensitivity, energy saving and environmental protection.
Infrared sensor switch is an electronic device that controls the on and off of the circuit by sensing the approach of a human body or object through infrared technology.
This core working principle is based on infrared thermal sensing or active infrared reflection technology. When an object is detected entering the sensing area, the system automatically triggers the switch and starts the corresponding action (such as opening the door, lighting the light, etc.).
What is a Single-door IR Sensor Switch?
A single-door infrared sensor switch is an intelligent sensing device designed for a single-door structure. It uses infrared technology to sense the opening and closing state of the door body, thereby automatically controlling the on and off of electrical appliances, such as cabinet lighting, embedded light strips, etc.

The core principle of a single-door infrared sensor switch is that when the sensor detects that the door body is open, it immediately triggers the circuit to energize; when the door body is closed, it automatically cuts off the power supply to achieve energy-saving, high efficiency, and no contact.
This type of sensor is usually used in single-door scenes with relatively compact space, such as kitchen wall cabinets, bathroom mirror cabinets, office data cabinets, etc. Used with a dedicated cabinet power supply.
It can achieve an intelligent lighting experience that turns on and off immediately, greatly improving the convenience and comfort of daily use.
Features of a single-door IR sensor switch:
- Concentrated sensing area: The sensing range is relatively small, usually concentrated on one side of the door, which is very suitable for single-door structures with limited opening and closing angles.
- Easy installation: Our single-door sensor is designed as an embedded structure, which can be easily integrated into the door frame, the inside of the cabinet or the wall groove without destroying the original decoration style.
- Sensitive response: The sensor is sensitive and can identify the door status within milliseconds, which is especially suitable for application environments with frequent opening and closing.
What is a Double-door IR Sensor Switch?
A double-door IR sensor switch is an intelligent sensing device specifically used for double-leaf bi-directional door structures. It is widely used in bedroom wardrobes, living room display cabinets, double-open glass doors, large storage cabinets and other scenarios.

The biggest difference between it and a single-door sensor is that it not only needs to identify the state of a single-sided door body, but also must judge the opening and closing actions of the two doors to ensure that the power output can be accurately controlled when either side of the door is opened.
The sensing logic of the double-door infrared sensor switch is more complex and generally includes two infrared sensing heads. They are installed on the front edge of the left and right door bodies or the inside of the door frame, respectively.
When any door is opened, the double-door infrared sensor system immediately recognises and triggers power on; only when both doors are closed will the lights or equipment automatically turn off, effectively avoiding false triggering caused by half-open doors or misoperation.
Features of the double door IR sensor switch:
- Wide sensing range: The sensing area covers the entire double door area, and can fully monitor the status of the left and right doors to ensure reliability and consistency.
- Two-way triggering: Most products use synchronous control logic, that is, the system can be started when either the left or right door is opened, providing higher practicality and sensitivity.
- Symmetrical installation required: To ensure accurate sensing, the sensor module needs to be installed symmetrically on both sides of the door body.
Main Difference Between Single vs Double Door IR Sensor Switches
Comparison | Single-door infrared sensor | Double-door infrared sensor |
Sensing area | Small, concentrated on one side | Large, covering two door areas |
Applicable door types | Single door, drawer, small cabinet door | Double door, double cabinet door |
Control logic | Simple, detect one target | Complex, need to judge the state of double doors |
More complex, needs precise installation | Simple | More complex, need precise installation |
Cost | Low | Relatively high |
Application | Wall cabinets, toilet lights, storage room doors | Wardrobes, display cabinets, glass doors |
Summary
If your cabinet door is a single leaf, please use a single door IR sensor switch. If it is a double door, you should give priority to using a double door IR sensor switch, to ensure system stability and response accuracy.
